Ilze Abersone

Ilze Abersone creates small-batch pottery at Mud Clay Studio in Madison and at her home in New Providence. She focuses on creating practical pieces that can be described by clean forms, subtle textures, and functional design.

She works mostly with white stoneware clay and has recently begun exploring porcelain. Her pieces are made through both wheel throwing and hand building, often finished in neutral tones that highlight the simplicity of form and material.

Ilze began working with clay a few years ago and quickly developed a deep appreciation for the process — from shaping each piece to the unpredictability of the kiln. She continues to refine her craft at Mud Clay Studio in Madison, NJ, a community that has supported her growth as a maker.

Her work is produced in small quantities and evolves naturally over time, with an emphasis on quality and quiet detail.
